For those of you that don't know what dyscalculia is, it's basically dyslexia for numbers. That said...

I'm trying to figure out a formula for auction listings and calculating where the money goes. It's pretty basic but I'm scratching my head. I can almost picture the formula but it's very hazy.

There's an auction lot. Let's say it sells for $50. Out of that, I need to subtract listing fees + payment processing fees from the gross as a flat value. Then I need to subtract the cost of the item from the gross, a flat value, let's say $15. Then from the net that's left I need to subtract sourcing fee (not always there) as a flat value, lister fee as a percentage of net and packing fee as a flat value. Anything that's left goes back into general revenue.

I'm just looking for a simple (I hope) formula or two that I can refer to for spreadsheets and databases. I can figure out the syntax for that, Im not asking for help with excel or database syntax. I just need a formula that I can refer to when I create them.

Any help is very much appreciated :)

Is this part of a homework assignment?

There's an auction lot. Let's say it sells …

P = selling price (varies)

Out of that, I need to subtract listing fees …

L = listing fees (fixed)

… + payment processing fees …

B = payment processing fees (fixed)

Then I need to subtract the cost of the item …
C = cost of item (varies)

Then from the net that's left …

N = net

N = P - L - B - C

… I need to subtract sourcing fee (not always there) …
S = sourcing fee (fixed, sometimes equals zero)

… [plus] lister fee as a percentage of net …
A = the percent (varies)

A/100 * N = lister fee

… [plus] packing fee.
F = packing fee (fixed)

Anything that's left goes back into general revenue.
R = what's left

R = N - (S + A/100 * N + F)

This can also be written as:

R = (P - L - B - C)*(1 - A/100) - S - F

Test these equations for R, using actual values for P, L, B, C, S, A, and F.

I did not test them. :cool:
