I can't make sense of this. Are X and x, and Y and y, supposed to be the same? Does "*" mean multiplication as it usually does, or are you perhaps defining it as a new operation, x*y = x2 - 3xy - y2 ?

If so, then you can determine what (1)*(-1) is by replacing each variable with its value and evaluating the expression. (You don't get 5.)

But what in the world does "I,z=0.x*y *z" mean? Please explain the question in words, and quote the entire problem as given to you, exactly.
