Skew lines in box

Using the skew lines box on the top of the wiki entry for skew lines, why are segments A1B1 and CD not skew? They aren't in the same plane yet they are listed as parallel in my book.

Those are in one plane! It is not a horizontal or vertical plane - it is a slanted plane.

Draw the diagonal lines A1B and D1C - and you'll see what is meant.

So then I have to assume that there is not empty space or non space within the box? The box is solid? It's not 6 planes, but rather an infinite number?

In a sense, yes. Infinitely-many planes can be put through various points of the prism formed by the line segments. ;)
