''When I was your age, you were only 4 years old. I will be 79 years old by the time you reach my present age,'' a father says to his daughter. How old are the father and his daughter now?

Find of the problem..... The ages of father and his daughter now
Thus we name those as variables with a name.
Let

The father's age now = F

The daughter's age now = D

(F-D) year's ago - The father was daughter's age now (D)

At that time, daughter's age was [D - (F-D)]. So, knowing "When I was your age, you were only 4 years old", we get:

[D - (F-D)] = 4 ...........................................(1)

continue...

is d-4 = 79-f

I don't think it is right but I calculated it already

can you tell me how do you think about equation 1

I did it finally

D-(f-d)=4 --------(1) | f+(f-d)=79 ; f+[f-(2+f/2)]=79 -----------(2)

d=4+(f-d) | f-(2+f/2)=79-f

d=4+f-d | 2f-(4+f)= 158-2f

2d=4+f | f-4=158-2f

d=2+f/2 | 3f=162

-------------------------------- f=54

d=2+54/2
d=2+27
d=29
