Does all subtraction and addition occur after multiplication and division regardless

Can someone help with this problem?

(160÷10)×10+100÷1/10+300=?

I think the answer is solved as follows:

(160÷10) = 16
16×10 = 160
160+100=260

260÷1/10=2600
2600+300=2900

However, a friend is solving it this way:

1)16÷10=16
2)16×10=160
3)160÷1/10= 1600
4)1600+300=2900
5)2900+100= 3000

Is the answer 2900 or 3000?

It's neither. Let's group some symbols, shall we?
\(\displaystyle (160÷10)×10+100÷1/10+300 = \left [ (160 \div 10) \times 10 \right ] + \left [ 100 \div 1/10 \right ] + 300\)

Where both of you have gone wrong is not grouping the 100 with the division by 1/10.

If the "1/10" is really written as a vertical fraction, \(\displaystyle \frac{1}{10}\), then it should be treated as a single number, as if in parentheses:

(160÷10)×10 + 100÷
\(\displaystyle \frac{1}{10}\) + 300

First do what's in parentheses:

16×10 + 100÷\(\displaystyle \frac{1}{10}\) + 300

Next, do the multiplication and the division:

160 + 1000 + 300

Now do the additions:

1460
