Basic Pool DesignYou have been asked by the local city council to design a new pool for the children’saquatic centre. Since you have only recently completed your pool design course, you caneither design a circular pool within a square fenced area, or a square pool inside a circularfenced area. You have 88m of fence available. Legally, there must be at least 1m between theedge of the pool and the fence. The pool will be exactly 0.4m deep, with no variation indepth. Design a pool that maximises the swimming space available for the children.

Specialised Pool DesignYou have now received your master’s degree in specialised pool design. The local councilhas approached you with a very similar problem. You are still designing a pool that is eithersquare or circular. In this case, you have no restriction on the length of fencing. You arehowever restricted to a maximum of 225m2 for the pool itself. In an attempt to increase theutilisation of the pool, the council has asked for you to design a pool that has varying depth. At least 100m2 must be at most 0.4m deep. You must either use a square-based pyramid or a cone to model the pool. Your goal is tomake the deepest pool that meets the above criteria.Which pool would be deepest? Which pool requires the most water?
