I am wondering if someone can brake this down for me.
I know the answer for x is 34 and y is 98 but not sure how they got to it.
The question is
Calculate the value of x and y.

When two st. lines intersect at point, it creates
vertical opposite angles and adjacent angles.
Do you recall any theorems regarding those angles?
The two adjacent angles here are (2x+30) and (3x-20). These are adjacent angles. What should be their sum?I understand that, just can't get my head around where they got 34 and 98 from.
Don't understand what you mean?

NO! you continue.
180=(2x+30)+(3x-20)
170/5=x=34
y=2x+5
y=98
