need help on how to solve it?
Zach went into store A and spent 40% of his money. He then spent 25% of his
remaining money at store B. He then spent all but 20% of what was left.
He ended up with $27 left over. How much money did Zach start with?

Take it step by step. Suppose he started with $100. How much did he spend at store A? How much was left? Then continue.

Then you might think about whether there is a slightly quicker way to do this. (Hint: if he spends 40% of his money, then he keeps 60%.)

Also, be sure to read this page, which tells how to ask a question to get the best possible response. In brief: show us enough of your own thinking that we can tell what kind of answer will help you best.

Rule #1 - If you don't know what it is, give it a name!

"How much money did Zack start with?"

I don't know. That's the point of the problem statement!

Fine, then M = Zach's Money to Start Off.

Well on your way to a solution.
