Cryptic Stop?

Hey, can we have a generous clue to your illegal crypt? :p

Btw, why is word "fixed" there, dressed in warm brackets?

Hint: no 'e'

I replaced the original thread because I had botched the clue. (Tried to make a more-challenging clue, but too hungover to get it right, apparently.) The first thread had 117 views (after several hours on the board), so I included "fixed" as a disclosure.

Ahhhh geezzzz...just brought down all the saints from heaven:
wrote down mental instead of metal :-(

WA i tin G

Why is "container" part of the clue?
"takes" is the container indicator, right?
Or is "tin" = metal container?

Thanks; always thought that "tin can" was container's name...

Denis, don't you keep your cakes in a cake tin?
If cake tin is what it's called, then I learned something today: THANKS

EDIT: can is a synonym of tin (thesaurus.com); to the corner I go...
think I'll bring a tin of jelly beans:p

A tin is a small, metal container. (Doesn't need to be made of tin.)

Otis!!! Where ya been? …
Your memory is good, but let's lengthen it a bit, nonetheless. ;)

Otis is my non-moderator account.

mmm4444bot is my moderator account.

For the last few years, the majority of my work at this forum has taken place behind the scenes. I'm preparing to step down as a moderator (in phases), so you'll be seeing Otis a lot more over the next two months.

...well I'll be a monkey's uncle (as Charlie Darwin would say?!).

Don't think I ever knew that.
Always thought Otis was smarter than you :p
