Hi All
This is my first post to this forum so please bear with me...
I have an excel table I am trying to set up but need some advice as to the actual maths I am trying to solve.

information provided
Area yielding 1kg protein in m2
calculated values for actual protein content

if it takes 94m2 to provide 1 kg of protein how much is needed to provide 0.02kg

I have tried multiplying the known protein content by the area yielding 1kg protein in m2 but this does not feel right

ACTUAL PROTEIN CONTENT / KGAREA YIELDING 1Kg PROTEIN / m2AREA NECESSARY TO PRODUCE PROTEIN CONSUMED / m2
0.0869242.09
0.0065260.17
0.0018300.05
0.0013460.06
0.0007220.02
0.0078350.27
0.0113240.27
0.0045250.11
0.0242210.51
0.0998403.99
0.0182551.00
0.0209470.98
0.0123420.52

As you can see the values look to be far too low..

Can anyone advise?

The main thing I can see is that you present your units somewhat confusingly. Let's fix that up first to avoid any confusion.

\(\displaystyle p = \text {protein required in kg.}\)

\(\displaystyle c = \text {conversion factor in } \dfrac{\text {square meters}}{\text {kg}}.\)

\(\displaystyle a = \text {area required in square meters.}\)

If I understand what is going on at all (which my wife says is a rare event), your third column is not divided by square meters despite your caption. It should be square meters, no division required.

So the formula is simply \(\displaystyle p * c = a.\)

The units work: kg * (sm / kg) = sm.

\(\displaystyle 0.0869 * 24 = 2.0856 \approx 2.09.\)

Common sense: 0.0869 is a bit under 10% of 1. And 2.09 is a bit under 10% of 24.

What is it that I don't understand?

I think your headings would more clearly say what you intend if they were:

ACTUAL PROTEIN CONTENT (kg)
AREA YIELDING 1Kg PROTEIN (m2/kg)
AREA NECESSARY TO PRODUCE PROTEIN CONSUMED (m2)

Your slashes suggest "per", but apparently are supposed to mean "measured in ...".

Given this, you are correct to say that, for example,0.0123 kg * 42 m2/kg = 0.5166 m2.

Do you have a specific reason to think the numbers in the last column are too small?
