The amount of ingredients needed to make 3 and 5 servings are:

To make Rice and water Salt Butter
3 serving 1 cup 3\8tsp 1 1\2 tsp
5 servings 1 2\3 cup 5\8 tsp 2 1\2 tsp


Find the amount of each ingredient needed to make (a) 2 servings, (b) 1 serving, and (c) 29 servings.


I know that for 2 servings of cups of cooked rice you will need a 1\2 cup of rice; 1 1\3 cup of water; 1\4 cup of salt and 1tsp of butter. I also know that to make one serving of rice, you will need 1 cup of rice, 2 cups of water, 1 tsp of salt and butter.

I also know that to make 14 servings of rice you need 3 cups of rice, and 7 1\2 cups of water. I also know that with 15 more cups of rice that will give me 29 servings. But I'm stuck right there. Can someone please help?
 
Perhaps I am not understanding the problem, but from the first set of recipies it appears to be linear. You can get 2 servings by subtracting 3 servings from 5 servings.

Or you can multiply 3 servings by 2/3 and get the same answer.
For 1 swrving divide 2 servings by 2.
I don't understand. When you say "I know..." is it because the book said so or is it something you worked out?

How did you <u>separate</u> the rice and water like that?
And you <u>combined</u> the salt and butter?


Take the 3-seriving recipe and divide by three:

For a 2-serving recipe: multiply through by 2.

For a 29-serving recipe: multiply through by 29,
