please explain how to get the answer: :D

A man has a rectangular garden that has the perimeter of 122 feet. The difference of the length and width is 11 feet. Determine the dimensions of this garden.

here is what i have done so far:
let L be your length
let w be your width

L-w=11
2L+2w=122

Thank-you sooooo much if you can figure this thing out!!!

Your set-up is correct. (Thank you for including it.) There are various ways to proceed from this point, but I would suggest solving the first equation for "L=", and then substituting the result in for "L" in the second equation. Solve this for the value of w, and then back-solve for L.

Eliz.

L-W=11
rewrite this as
L=11+w

2L+2w=122
substitute L=11+w into the above equation

2(11+w) +2w =122
22 +2w + 2w =122
4w= 122- 22
4w = 100
w= 100/4
w= 25

Hope this helps

thank-you
