You could try a little harder to express logs of various bases.

Have you considered a change of base?
 
Oh, well in that case, have you considered a change of base? Base 2 looks like it would be helpful.
 
If the expression is log<sub>8</sub>((1/2)<sup>1/4</sup>), then take the 1/4 out front (using one of the log rules you've learned), then figure out the power that turned 8 = 2<sup>3</sup> into 1/2. (Hint: Think about negative and fractional exponents.)

Then multiply this number by the 1/4.

¼*log<sub>8</sub>(2<sup>-1</sup>) =

-¼*[log<sub>2</sub>(2)]/[log<sub>2</sub>(8)] =
-¼*[1]/[log<sub>2</sub>(2<sup>3</sup>)] =
-¼*[1]/[3] =
-1/12
