how do you match an equation with the graph of the equation?

example: y= 4x

and then there is some graphs i have to choose from

Revisit your notes on the standard form of the equation for a straight line: y=mx+c.

If we have y=4x, m must be 4 and c must be 0. That is, the gradient of the line is 4 and the y-intercept is 0 (so the graph cuts through the origin).

I think revisiting your notes is the way to go.

In particular, review using slope and intercept to graph, and the connection between positive and negative slopes, on the one hand, and increasing and decreasing graphs, on the other.

A solid grasp of these concepts will likely allow you to answer questions of this sort with nothing more than a quick glance.
