Use the SSS Congruence Postulate to show that triangle ABC = triangle CDE

(On 10x10 grid using the Y- axis as line 6 on the grid and the X- axis is line 6 on the grid. Plot the following points to complete your diagram.)

A= -4, 2
B= -3,-3
C= -1, 0
D= 4, 1
E= 1, 3

so plot the points on a graph, and join the lines to make the triangles.

I am looking at the triangles.

I gave you that description so that you could visualize what I was already viewing.
The question is:

A) I don't remember the postulate.

B) Don't remeber how to begin to use it to prove what I know from the diagram

C) How do I put it into a facts that a 16 y/o daughter will understand that is having trouble with Math and currently hates it.

just call me Jazs frazzled dad

postulate --put forward and claim ie prove the 2 triangles are equal using SSS

How - if the 3 sides are the same lengths for the 2 triangles then you have proved this. Note - the triangles will be rotated so don't be confused.

so...plot the points, draw the triangles, measure the sides, show the sides are the same, then they are equal.

Here we go

ec = bc, 3
ab = cd, 5
ac = ed, 3

There fore if the side of 2 triangles are equal then the 2 triangles are equal

Does that get it?

I keep telling everyone it been 30+ years

Well done

If the 3 sides of a traiangle are the same as 3 sides of another triangle then the 2 triangles are equal.
