percent of increase or decrease = (AMOUNT of change / original amount ) X 100

In November, sales were 158 units. This is the original, or beginning, amount.
In December, sales were 200 units.

Subtract to find the amount of change:
new amount - original amount = amount of change
200 - 158 = 42

Percent of change = (42 / 158) X 100
Percent of change = 26.6%

If it was the other way around,

If Nov. sales were 200 units and Dec. sales were 158.
Would you do the following 200 - 158 = 42
42/200 = 0.21
.21 x 100 = 21%

Is this right?

Thank you,

close; 158 - 200 = -42
continue as you did; you'll get -21%
