What up with using decimial and fraction confussing

How do they want the answers:

in fractions

or

in decimals??

If answers needed in decimals:

Convert everything to decimals.

1/5 * 0.9 = 0.2 * 0.9 = 0.18

If answers needed in fractions:

Convert everything to fractions.

1/5 * 0.9 = 1/5 * 9/10 = 9/50

wHAT ABOUT 6/7 MULIPLIEDBY 0.2

This is the great deficiency of the decimal solution. You must be able to work fluently with the fractions or you must decide what sort of rounding is sufficient.

6/7 = 0.8571428571428571428571...

If you REALLY want a decimal solution, you will have to come to grips with that. Should you use 0.857? 0.857143? 0.86? It is hoped that if you are expected to provide a decimal solution, that this will be spelled out clearly in the problem statement.

This topic was, of course, covered in your class; it's explained, with examples, in your textbook; there are loads of lessons, with yet-more examples, available online; and you've been provided here with still-more worked examples.

So... where are you stuck? Please reply showing your work and reasoning so far. Thank you! :D
