Slope question: In the formula 'y=mx+b' what is 'b'?

In the formula "y=mx+b" what is "b"? I've never quite been able to figure that out. :oops:

Mathematically:

That is the value of 'y' when x = 0.

Geometrically:

That is the height of the point on y-axis (from the origin) - where the straight line intersects the y-axis.

It is generally referred to as the "y-intercept" of the line.
