Here is the question: The diagonals of a rectangle are 25 cm long and intersect an angle of 32 deg. Find the length and width of the rectangle

Here is my answer:

Finding half the length
sin 16 deg = y / 12.5 cm = 3.44 cm

Finding the length
Let L be the length and Y the half the length
2Y = L
2(3.44)= 6.88 cm = L

Finding the width

Let the W be the width
W = sqrt( (25cm)^2 - (6.88cm)^2) = 24.03 cm

Please correct any mistakes I have done

Thanks!!

Try not to do so much rounding up front. Go as far as you can algebraically, and carry as much as you can in your calculator. This will help you avoid losing points due to round-off error.

Also, there is no need to introduce so many variables. Instead, use the triangle you drew, but label in terms of half the width and half the length. This will eliminate many extra steps.

That said, your values look okay. :wink:
