Here is the problem
2/3x+2/3x=3

First - you need to tell us - what is it that you are supposed to do.

Second: Is your problem

\(\displaystyle \frac{2}{3x} + \frac{2}{3x} = 3\)

or

\(\displaystyle \frac{2}{3}x + \frac{2}{3}x = 3\)

or something else?

Multiply both sides of equation by the denominator (it seems to be the same). Remember, any number divided by itself is 1.

MY EDIT: Removed reference to the set of Real numbers (Subhotosh's point well-taken)

Unreal numbers (complex that is) also follow the same rule....

12-6x=18-7x
12-6x+6x=18-7x+6x
