3/7y+5/7=-1/7 I need a step by step answer. I haven't done this stuff in over 30 years and my daughter needs help. I want to be able to help her. The equation reads: 3y over 7 + 5 over 7 = negative 1 over 7.

4/9w+6-1/3w=4 How do I solve this? This should read 4 over 9w + 6-1 over 3w=4, the numbers with slashes are supposed to be fractions. that's what I'm having problems with, fractions.

3/7y + 5/7 = -1/7

Is that 3 divided by (7 times y) or (3/7) times y ?

4/9w+6 -1/3w = 4

That one needs clarification also.

That is 3/7 times y.

------------------------------- Welcome Spaceman !
Solve for y : (3/7)y + 5/7 = -1/7

Multiply by 7 : 3y +5 = -1
3y=-6
y=-2

:wink:

#2] 4/9w+6 -1/3w = 4

4/3(3w+2) -1/3w = 4

Take a try !
