What is that supposed to mean?. Are you adding in base 5?.

Hello, BHS08!

\(\displaystyle \begin{array}{ccccc}1 &0 &3 & 4\;_5 \\ +& 3&4&4\;_5\\ \hline\)

I can't figure out how to even get started on this problem. . Really?

If that's true, you should not have been assigned this problem . . .

There are basically two ways:

. . [1] Learn to add in base-5.

. . [2] Convert to base-10, add, then convert back to base-5.

Either way, it looks like this:

. . \(\displaystyle \begin{array}{cccccccc}1\;0\;3\;4_5 \\+ \;3\;4\;4_5\; \\ \hline 1\;4\;3\;3_5 \end{array}\quad\begin{array}{c}\Rightarrow \\ \Rightarrow \\ \\[-4mm] \Leftarrow \end{array}\quad\begin{array}{c}1\;\;4\;\;4 \\ +\;9\;\;9 \\ \hline 2\;\;4\;\;3 \end{array}\)
