?Solving algebraic word problems
?"30 stamps are worth a total of $8.66. Some of the stamps are worth 32¢ each and the rest are worth 23¢ each. How many of the stamps are worth 32¢ each?"
My work:
x+y=30, .32x+.23y=8.66
y=30-x, .32x+.23(30-x)=8.66
.09x=1.76
x=19.56 stamps, which doesn't make sense, since one cannot have 19.56 stamps.
I cannot figure out what the heck I am doing wrong.
Many, many apologies if I am missing something really obvious.
Thank you
