You can only use the number 3. No other numbers may be used.
3*4 means you used one 3 and one 4. This is not allowed since using a 4 is not ok.
No other numbers may be used-even if you use five 3s.
EX: To get a total of six use this expression:
3+3 + 3(3 -3) .................I used 5 threes
3 +3 + 3(0)
3 + 3 + 0
6

You are to do 5 separate problems: The total for one problem should be 1, another 2, another 3, another 4 and the last one 5.

do you have to use 5 3s?

how about dividing

[3/(3*3) ] *3=1 right cause that would simplify to (1/3)*3 which is 1

try something like that for the rest

-hope that helps :)

oh oops i started typing that before the previous reply

in a puzzle, anything not explicitly prohibited is allowed!

0.3 and 3 are different numbers.

The instructions explicitly state, "You can (sic) only use the number 3. No other numbers may be used."

Furthermore, I do not think that the original post is a puzzle.

:p

No, it is not the same thing, Denis.

You confuse the verbs "to use" and "to evaluate".

The instructions say nothing about the value of sub-expressions in the answer. They say only that the answer may not contain any numbers other than the number 3.

I do not believe that the original post is a puzzle.

You can only use the \(\displaystyle > > > \)number 3.\(\displaystyle < < < , \) No other numbers may be used.

This is the wrong word. The word should be "digit." And the rules should be clear
as to what operations are allowed. If a decimal point is allowed, then the issue
about 3/.3 being a different "number" than 3 is not an issue.

We're speaking about digits here, not numbers.

...use four 3's and one multiplication sign to get 64

What other operations/symbols are allowed?

It's as if you are taking two of the threes and turning
them around next to the other threes to form
two eights to be multiplied together:

\(\displaystyle E3 \times E3 \ = \ 8 \times 8 \ = \ 64.\)
