Step 1: Get all terms that contain the variable x to the left-hand side of the equation

Step 2: Get all terms that do not contain the variable x to the right-hand side of the equation

Step 3: Combine like-terms

Step 4: If the coefficient on x is not 1, then divide both sides of the equation by the coefficient
