HELP: Positives and Negative with addition and subtraction

Here's an easy rule to memorize:

"Subtracting a negative number is the same as adding its opposite."

Here's an example.

5 - (-6)

The opposite of -6 is 6, so the rule says that subtracting negative six is the same as adding positive six.

Use the rule to change the expression from subtraction to addition:

5 + 6

You can do the same thing, in your exercise, working from left-to-right.
