Here's an easy rule to memorize:
"Subtracting a negative number is the same as adding its opposite."
Here's an example.
5 - (-6)
The opposite of -6 is 6, so the rule says that subtracting negative six is the same as adding positive six.
Use the rule to change the expression from subtraction to addition:
5 + 6
