8(2f-3)=4(4f-8)

The answer I came up w/is -8 but it doesn't fit into the equation?

There is something VERY wrong with that equation. Check your book.

\(\displaystyle 8(2f - 3) = 4(4f-8)
\)

\(\displaystyle 16f - 24 = 16f - 32
\)

\(\displaystyle 32 - 24 = 16f - 16f\)

\(\displaystyle 8 = 0
\)

In algebra 1, students are exposed to equations with exactly ONE solution, equations with infinitely many solutions, and equations with NO solution.

This equation doesn't necessarily have anything "wrong" with it....it just happens to be an equation which has no solutions. This equation states a condition that can't be satisfied by ANY value of f we try.

And sometimes it is USEFUL to know that you've got an impossible condition. Happens in the real world fairly often.

How did you get f = -8 ?

Perhaps, you made an arithmetic mistake somewhere, but we cannot help you find your mistake(s) until you show us what you did.

Please check your typing, to be sure that everybody is looking at the same exercise. Also, it's useful to post the instructions that come with an exercise.
