I need to prove this problem and explain my thinking. I was wondering if anyone can look at this and tell me if it makes sense? Is what I am doing by using the inverse rule for multiplication correct? Am I missing any other rules for what I am doing that I should state. I would love any feedback. Thanks!
I have to answer the equation
a-1/4a= 75.
I wrote a as 4/4a and then subtract 1/4a to get 3/4a. Is there a rule I should be stating here that makes this ok to do?
I was then able to see that 3/4a=75.
I then used the inverse rule for multiplication and multiplied both sides by the inverse or reciprocal of 3/4 which is 4/3.
When I did this on the left side of the equation, I got a and then when I multiplied 4/3 x 75, I got 100
a=100
