Hello, AbhiKap here

I am working on some work and I need some help on one problem:

Find the first term and common difference for the sequence with the given nth term.
a(n) = 8.6 + 0.4n

In the a(n), the n is the subscript.

Please help, I know it has something to do with the formula. But I don't know how to do it.

Thanks, Help is appreciated.

Review the definitions of the variables in the formula. What does "n" stand for?

As stapel says, it doesn't have to do so much with the 'formula' as it does with the definitions. What does "first term" mean? What does "common difference" mean?

Hi,

When I look at this problem I assume that n denotes the number of the term. Although since this is not defined in the problem, the problem is vague.

Solve for a subscript 1 = 8.6 +0.4(1).

Another words what would a subscript 1 the first term equal.

Keep plugging, you are doing well.
