How do you figure 3/5 of $45.00? thx

You might find it easier to compute if you think of it as:

\(\displaystyle (45\div5)\times3=?\)

We calculate fractional amounts of a number by multiplying said number by said fraction.

3/5 times 45

Mark showed how to rearrange this calculation (using some commutative properties of arithmetic) into a form that one (who has memorized the multiplication table) may do in their head.

Other people need to use a calculator, by pressing these keys:

[3] [÷] [5] [×] [4] [5] [=]

Cheers

Yet another way: 3 times 45 is 135 and then dividing by 5, 135/5= 27. 3/5 ties $45.00 is $27.00

Or even: 3/5= 6/10= 0.6. 0.6 times 45 is 27.0 so again, 3/4 times $45.00 is $27.00.

(Don't forget the "$", it is an important part of the answer.)
