What does "the difference between a number and one" mean? If you were asked to find "the difference between 5 and one" what arithmetic operation would you do? Once you understand that "five times" and "eight added" should be easy.

What does "the sum of 10 and a number" mean? What is "the sum of 10 and 7"? What arithemetic operation did you do? What is "12 more" than that?
