Hello. First post. Basically I have been given the current equation:

I am stumped on what to do after this step:

Do I add the 4c and the 4 or subtract them both?

In the first step you are subtracting \(\displaystyle 4c (c- 1)= 4c^2- 4c\) from \(\displaystyle 4c^2+ 0c\) or, equivalently, adding \(\displaystyle -(4c(c- 1)= -4c^2+ 4c\). For the second step you should have "4c+ 9", not "-4c+ 9".

Alright, so the signs never rely on what I do to the first number? and my answer would be:

4c - 4 + 5 / c - 1 ?
