Could someone please explain how to factor the expression 3x^2 - xy - 2y^2 + 3x + 2y by using the grouping method?

Knowing what the answer is, I can rationalize a way, but other than that it is a pick, choose, and try. Remember, when using grouping, you sometimes have to add things in and then subtract them out for use in a different place (or subtract, then add).

The 3x2 look suggestive of a 3x+something factor and the 3x+2y looks inviting. See what you can do with that.
