math problem help if they were 12 female cousins and eight male cousins how many more male cousin than female?
in fraction? i need steps i think i need to add the total?

Did you make a mistake in typing the exercise?

It does not make sense to ask how much bigger 8 is than 12 because 8 is smaller than 12. :cool:

Yes, when comparing two numbers as a proportion, they mean in proportion to the whole amount

Total = 12 + 8 = 20 cousins

male = 8/20 = 2/5 or 40%
female = 12/20 = 3/5 or 60%

The question is unusual, but I suppose that the difference could be expressed as ...
difference = -4/20 = -1/5 or -20%
