I'm having trouble solving equations that deal with fractions. I get the concept of multiplying each term by the LCD but this particular type of equation is not friendly like the others I've been doing. I posted a picture that shows the equation. I know the answer is -23, when I look at the back of the book, but how on earth do I arrive at that? I got X = -5 Your help is very much appreciated. Sorry for being a noob.

Hope this link works, if not I will type it manually within 24 hrs.

Wow, thanks! That was very helpful. When you put them in parenthesis that made things clear because then I know I'm dealing with 2 terms that are together so therefore I knew at that point, I had to distribute the 5 among X and -4 to get 5x -20. I just wish the book had displayed them in parenthesis. Would of made things more clearer because I seriously thought I was dealing with one term. And that mini lesson on cross multiplying was helpful, but I was aware of that but I just tend to avoid doing it
