As Subhotosh Khan indicated, L'Hospital's Rule would make quick work of this problem. However, just in case you haven't covered it, remember from your algebra days that
\(\displaystyle \underset{j=0}{\overset{j=n-1}{\Sigma}}\, x^j\, =\, \frac{x^n\, -\, 1}{x\, -\, 1}\)
