How to solve this LR circuit problem?

i don't understand how to get i1 from this equation. I've looked at it for over an hour, I have to be missing something and if someone could point me in the right direction i'd really appreciate it. I tried subbing in dq/dt for i then I tried getting the partial and complementary solutions and that's where i got stuck.
