Do you know the "quadratic formula"?

If you do - what is it?

If you don't - consult your textbook/class-notes/Google and tell us what is it.

I will guess that, contrary to standard mathematical "grammar", you mean "X" to be the same thing as "x". If so, then:

1. What is the "Quadratic Formula"? (here)

2. What letters should you be using to stand for the 1, the -4, and the -1?

3. Which letters stand for which number? (Your answer should be in the form of three equations.)

4. Plugging these numbers in for these letters in the Formula, what equation do you get as a result?

5. When you simplify this equation to get a value (or two values) for x, what value(s) is/are the result?

If you get stuck, please reply showing your thoughts and efforts so far, including your answers to my questions above.

Thank you! ;)
