This is not my homework just a example I copied from online and cannot seem to know how to solve for the answer

A hospital has 275 adult beds, 30 pediatric beds, and 40 bassinets. In a non‐leap year, inpatient daily service days were 75,860 for adults, 7100 forpediatrics, and 11800 for newborns. The inpatient occupancy rate for the hospital is

a. 76%b. 58%c. 32%d. 46%

The occupancy rate as a percentage will be the actual occupancy divided by the total possible occupancy, times 100.

The actual occupancy is the sum of the given inpatient numbers, and the total possible occupancy is 365 times the total number of beds/bassinets.

Can you continue?

The total reported inpatient service days \(\displaystyle D\) were:

\(\displaystyle D=75860+7100+11800=94760\)

The total possible occupancy days \(\displaystyle T\) are:

\(\displaystyle T=365(275+30+40)=125925\)

Thus, the percentage of occupancy \(\displaystyle P\) is:

\(\displaystyle \displaystyle P=\frac{D}{T}\cdot100=\,?\)

Could someone please help me understand this question?

b.58%
c.32%
d.46%

This is not homework, I am just preparing to take a test. It was given as a Sample Question, and I don't understand how to get the answer.

75860+7100+11800=94760
365(275+30+40+=125925

94760/125925 x 100 = 75.25% ??

What kind of explanation do you want? The problem asks what percentage of the beds are in use. You are given the number of each kind of patient there is per year and the number of beds of each kind. MarkFl added the patients to get total patients and added the beds to get the number of beds available each day. He multiplied that by 365 to get the number of beds available per year then divided the number of patient per year by the number of beds available per year to get the percentage of beds in use.

You could get the same thing by dividing the number of patients each year by 365 to get the number of patients each day then divide by the number of beds available each day (that's what I did).

You can't expect to get an exact result but one of the given choices is clearly very close.
