Relation between class averages and number of classes?

I'm looking at the class averages in a private language school. I'm trying to make an accurate comparison between two different years. I have the average class size and the total number of classes for both years, but what I'm struggling with is the relation between the total average and the total number of classes.

E.G.

2015 Total class averages 9.3 and there were 3 classes
2016 Total class averages 11.56 and there were 5 classes

Of course I can see that the total average in 2016 was better than in 2015, but is there more I can say using the relationship between the averages and the number of classes?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have a breakdown of the grade for each class? If so, you could run a hypothesis test on both samples of grades ie. Class 1, Class 2, Class 3 averages vs Class 1 to 5 averages. Then you could identify if there a significant differences between the samples of grades (or if they came from the same population).
