Hi,

I have .1033 = P + (P -.08) x .35, solve for P

The answer is P = 0.0972, however I can't get to this myself as I don't know how to deal with the two P's on one side of the equation! Are you able to show me step by step how you would solve this?

You have an algebraic equation. I am not going to write an "x" which is used as a variable.
It is not quite a "times sign," which has perpendicular crossing bars anyway. I will rewrite
your equation using parentheses:


.1033 = P + (P - .08)(.35)

Here is a similar one where I can show you some steps for solving it:

.2455 = P + (P - .12)(.65)

.2455 = P + .65P - .12(.65)

.2455 = 1P + .65P - .078

.2478 = (1 + .65)P - .078

.2478 = 1.65P - .078



Can you continue solving my example? And then apply my example to your problem?
