At my church on Wed. night we have many different children's classes. The students in the classes are memorizing scripture and Bible facts to earn points. The students have been promised a prize to the class with the most points. Here is the problem. Not all the classes are the same size. In fact one class has double the number of students as the others. Obviously this class will earn more points making it a bit unfair.

How can we fairly decided who should win the prize, discounting the number of students. I am sure there is a formula or something very mathematical that can be done, but this is not a 3rd grade question and I only teach third grade!! :)

Can you help me??

Thanks, Katie

Divide total points by a class by number of students in that class;
winner is the class with higher division results.
40 in class : 212 points : 212/40 = 5.3
23 in class : 125 points : 125/23 = 5.43 **
12 in class : 62 points : 62/12 = 5.17
** the winnah :idea:
