A post is driven in a certain spot. Proceed due east for 300 ft, then proceed S 40 degrees E for another 150 feet. Turn direction again S 60 degrees W for 400 feet and then back to the post in a straight line. Find the area.

S 40º E means 40º East of due South, or bearing 180º - 40º = 140º
S 60º W means 40º West of due South, or bearing 180º + 60º = 240º

After drawing the four legs of the trip, connect any two that are not already connected. This should give you two triangles. If you get tired of that, you may wish to look up Heron's Formula for arbitrary quadrilaterals.
