I don't know how to do this equation: m/5 + 8= -7
Through my work I have come up with -1/5 which was the wrong answer on my test. We were given four choices: -3, -1/5, 1/5, or -75
Can someone show me how to do this equation???

(m/5)+8=-7

Well, first off, subtract 8 from both sides

(m/5)+8-8=-7-8
(m/5)=-15

Then, since m is being divided by 5, and you want m by itself, multiply both sides of the equation by 5

(m/5)*5=-15*5

m = -75

For starters, no one knows what "do this equation" means.

Let's jsut guess that you mean "solve" the equation for "m".

m/5 + 8= -7

Subtract 8

m/5 + 8 - 8 = -7 - 8
m/5 + (8 - 8) = -15
m/5 + (0) = -15
m/5 = -15

Multiply by 5

(m/5)*5 = -15*5
m*(5/5) = -75
m*(1) = -75
m = -75

CHECK

m/5 + 8= -7
(-75)/5 + 8= -7
-15 + 8= -7
-7 = -7 <== That's it!!

So, where were you wandering off?
