Hi I tried this question but it’s not working, can someone help?

I suppose it is not helpful to wonder what the hawk is sitting on.

What is the relevance of 180 - 67 = 113?

Let’s start by finding the length of BC. How do you do that?

So what is the tangent of angle ABC? (By the way, you might have helped yourself by assigning a point to the top of the tree.)

How do you go from tangent to angle?

I tried doing the whole problem and I got this as my final answer, sorry it’s messy!

Can you not see that an answer of 5.9 degrees is less than 23 degrees and so cannot be even close to correct?

To be honest, I have no idea what you were trying to do in your working.

Start with the triangle ABD formed with the tree. You have two angles and one length. That is sufficient to work out all three angles and all three lengths.

Do that as a start. What do you get?

PS: It is now 1am and you have left the site. I’m for bed.

You need to add your 5.9º to 23º. The angle of elevation is the angle with the horizontal.
(You could have found this full angle at B ([MATH]\angle[/MATH] ABC) using [MATH]sinx[/MATH] in the big [MATH]\bigtriangleup[/MATH] ABC).
