odds of winning converted to odds against winning

How do you change the odds of winning to the odds against winning?

My problem:
A certain drawing states that the odds of winning are 280:88. What would be the odds against winning?

I thought that the formula was:
probability of losing / probability of winning, which would mean that 280/88 would be the numerator and then I got confused on what the denominator would be, I was thinking that I would subtract the numbers and get 192/88, but that didn't seem right either.

Why wouldn't it be 88:280?

Well that's what I originally thought, but thought that would be way too simple.
