Use the definiton of "r" sin, cos, tan to find sin, cos, tan of the angle whose terminal side goes through these parts:

1. (-1,3)
2. (-4,0)
3. sec(theta)= -3/2 & (theta) is in Quadrant III
4. sinA= -3/5 & A is in Quadrant III
cosB= 5/13 & B is in Quadrant IV

"Theta" is the symbol that looks like a zero with a horizontal line through the middle. I'm wsure everyone knew that already, though. :wink:

It's due tomarrow...gah.

What does the variable "r" stand for? How does it relate to these questions?

The first two exercises are fairly simple: draw the dot, draw the triangle, use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the length of the hypotenuse, and then read of the sine, cosine, and tangent values. How far have you gotten with these? Where are you stuck?

For the third exercise, use the two given numbers (being the hypotenuse and the adjacent sides, respectively) and the Pythagorean Theorem to find the third side's length. Then use the fact of the angle's location to put the correct signs on the legs. Then read off the values.

The other exercises work similarly.

If you get stuck, please reply showing (or describing in detail) how far you have gotten. Thank you.

Eliz.
