Relative speed of moving objects.

hy the relative speed of objects moving in same direction is difference of speed of objects and why the relative speed of objects moving in opposite direction is addition of speed of objects.Any one pls explain,Thanks.

What else would you think the speeds would be?

If you have two objects starting from the same spot and going east, one at 50 kph and the other at 100 kph, at what speed do you think the faster object is leaving behind the slower object? If you viewed the slower object as actually stationary (that is, as not moving from the starting point), what speed would you give the other object, in order to preserve the original relative speeds?

...while the relative speed of objects moving in opposite directions is the sum of the speeds of the objects.
What else would you think the speeds would be?

Hi Stapel,

Thanks for info I have got the formula for relative speed of moving objects, but I could not understand how practically the addition for objects in same direction and subtraction for objects in opposite direction. Now I can understand
