I am trying to help my wife figure out the measurements of signs she needs to make for two windows at her new studio space. Local building codes specify the sign can only be 40 percent of the total area of the window. One window is 79" wide by 57" tall and the other window is 55" wide and 57" tall. I know how to get the square inches and using basic math get 40 percent of that but what I am needing is what the new width and height measurements would be. This is stumping me. Please Help.

Knowing the maximal area of the signs won't tell you what the dimensions of the signs must be, unless we know either how the width and height are to be related (for example twice as tall as they are wide) or, if the signs are to have a specific width or height (and then the other dimension can then be determined).

Do you have any other information regarding the signs?
