I am to Write an equation of the line that has slope=-(2/3)andpassing through (5, 4).

I really don't understand the the formula that is used for this problem

y=mx + b

here's what I did.

y=(-2/3)(5) + b

-4= -10 + b

-18=b

but that is wrong according to the answers

How do you get from

y=(-2/3)(5) + b

to

-4= -10 + b ?

y=mx+b is the slope-intercept form. m is the slope, b is the y-intercept. They give you m, x, and y, so all you need to do is find b.

4=(-2/3)(5)+b

b=4+(10/3)=22/3

So

y=(-2/3)x+22/3

I was following the example in the book. maybe I was looking at the wrong thing.
thanks for the help.
